Last week was a “short” week for me, in a couple of ways.
First, I’ve been running longer than I ever have, and in each week of February I ran at least 40 miles. This was a bit of a recovery week, as I ran 20 miles last Sunday and only had 12 scheduled yesterday. Second, it was a short week because I didn’t run 12 miles yesterday. Instead, I had a short run in the morning, and then went out to celebrate my birthday one day early. As a consequence, I nabbed just over 33 miles; 6 short of my goal.
Which, if I’m honest, is still a lot of miles… but thanks to this new training regimen, it felt short. It felt… decadent. But I have clearly turned up the volume in Q1 of 2016. In my 45th year on this earth, I ran 1,268.35 miles… I expected that number to be much lower after logging 971 miles in 2015, so it’s clearly the last couple of months that have made the difference. Q1 2016 is just over two thirds of the way through, and I’m already looking at 344 miles on my training log, with an average pace of 9:31 per mile. This makes me feel quite optimistic for the Pittsburgh Marathon!
So I guess some goals for my 46th year are in order.
- I turned 45 today, so let’s grab 45 miles this week. Why not?
- Captain two Ragnar teams – and have an amazing time with friends both new and old.
- Two marathons – Pittsburgh and New York (the drawing for NY is tomorrow – would NOT mind entry as a late birthday present)!
- How about 1,445 miles total. Plus a few bike rides.
Sounds like a plan. That’s it for now… gonna go grab a few of this week’s 45 miles now!
